06 April 04 - Racing Victoria profiles David, taken from the RVL website:
Name: David Brideoake
Age: 48
Residence: Moorooduc
Nickname: NoneHow did you get into racing?
I've always had an extensive interest in horses. I just like good horses. I was heavily involved in the equestrian side of things and when you compete at the highest level, the thoroughbred industry was a natural progression.First race meeting you attended?
When I was a kid I used to always go to the Royal Easter Show. We had jumping ponies and part of the ritual when at the showgrounds at Paddington in Sydney was to go to the races on a big day at Randwick.Best horse you've seen and why?
I was a real fan of Vo Rogue. He was such a great horse. The front-running ability he possessed showed he was a tough horse, and that he could kept it going reeling off those sectionals was amazing.
Most memorable moment in racing?
Watching the last 10 strides of the (VRC) Grand National (Steeple) in 1998 when I trained the eventual winner Burrowye Lord. He was getting cut down at the end and the agony of those last four to five strides at the end and then the elation of winning, that was pretty memorable. Most embarrassing moment in racing?
It was mistaking the administration and weighing room at Moe racecourse. I thought I was walking into the secretary's office only to waltz into the ladies jockey room by mistake. Dianne Wynne and her daughter Sally were in there and I can tell you Di was the only one laughing. I still get ribbed about it.If you weren't a trainer, what would you want to be?
It would be something horse related. Blood horses have always been my livelihood and it was a natural progression after riding in Europe.Best track in Victoria?
Sandown. I like the open spaces. It is a very fair track and has a good surface.Any superstitions?
I like number two, it has been a good number to me.
